Till 1904 Swakin was the only Sudanese port at the
RED SEA and it was an important commercial center and a pilgrims port
Construction of Port ,Sudan started on 1905 – it has been officially inaugurated
in 1909 by the Second khedewi of Egypt Abas Helimi .In 1974 Sea Ports
Corporation ( SPC) was established as one of the ministry of transport sectors
and as an independent Sudanese maritime body headed by a Board of Directors.

Sea Ports Corporation is responsible for construction , development, maintenance
of Ports , harbors and lighthouses , it also offers port services through the
administration and operating ports at Sudanese coasts.


Since its
foundation in 1974 , the Sea Port Corporation has started to develop its
services and promote the operational capacity according to a well prepared
plan in order to be at the international ports standards
.


The sea
Ports corporation operates now four ports:

- Port Sudan
sea Port:

which
comprises of three units Northern , Southern Quays and Green Harbor
and Al khair.

The prince Osman Digna Sea Port at Swakin

- Oseif Sea Port:

- The Martyr
Marshal ELZUBEER.M. SALIH

- river port in wadi halfa(Wadi Halfa Port)


Sea Port
Corporation continues its efforts to achieve the third phase of the
development program. This phase is aimed at promoting and
rehabilitation’s of the infrastructure and the operational capacities
in order to respond to the needs of the world trade , COMMESA , the oil
exportation and the industry of the free zones. To achieve this
program, a strategic development plan has been prepared till
2020including construction of a new oil terminal for exportation of oil
products at DAMA DAMA area to accommodate ships of 50 thousand tons
load and two new berths of 535 meters length and 14.5 meters depth at
green port to handle bulk cargo and containers



Port Handling Equipment:

More than 300units of Port handling equipment are
available and major equipment such as 3 gantry cranes and 7 R. T.G
beside 35 quay cranes, other Mobile cranes, forklifts, RO/RO trailers
and tug-bout are under daily service
